Food is food, right? What if your entrée was man’s best friend? Would you still eat it if it were a cat not a cow?

            Most ‘civilized’ societies consume meat, but only if it is raised to die. What they eat is thought to be ‘brainless’ and ‘just food’ but is a pig any different than a cat? Socially it is inconsevable to consume animals that have been deemed ‘pets’ because they are something more than just animal, they are almost human.

            Other societies, ‘more savage than ours’ eat these pets on a regular basis. They keep a dog, name him Buddy while eating one of his kind for dinner. This is no big deal, simply culture. Dogs and cats are on the menu right beside chicken.

            So, how can we eat cows and pigs and chickens, but cringe at the thought of eating a cat? Shouldn’t we all be vegetarians if that is the case??

Marriage is a union that has been around since the beginning of time. Humans have always felt the need to link themselves with another by the signing of a paper and the exchange of a few words. But should this right to commit be limited to those of traditional attraction?
Many people deem marriage a sacred union between a man and a woman the gay/lesbian need not apply. They feel that it is unnatural and goes against God and the teachings of the Bible. How can it be right for a man to love a man?
These people, though many keep their voiced raised only in the voting, some act in a more extreme manner. They ridicule and harass many of the gay/lesbian/supporters.
On the other side, millions of people fight for the right to choose any gender in marriage. Not only gays/lesbians/bis are actively fighting, so are many people with equality as motivation. They argue that religion has nothing to do with it. Church and state are separate and so must the ruling be. They see limiting their love life as a direct violation of their human rights. They also wonder how people can’t fight so passionately against something that doesn’t really affect them.

      So what do you think? Is marriage a union for men and women only, or should we all be welcome to say ‘I do’?

            Weed. Marijuana. Dope. Cannabis. Grass by any other name is still pot. But is this gateway drug leading to medical breakthroughs?

            This debate over legalizing marijuana is one that has raged across the American countryside, from pot patrons and doctors to the overage American. Some feel that pot is a drug and nothing more. They note the effects this substance has on people, the loss of ambition and its addictive nature. Another fear is that legalizing pot will increase the crime rate and the accessibility of drugs to the youth. They ask, how can anyone consider legalizing something we have arrested people for throughout history?

            Others see marijuana as more than a drug. They think that it could be used in a medical practice. Though they do not condone using pot recreationally and agree there are harmful effects, they also see that it could act as a pain reliever in medicine and help ailing patients cope. Many also believe that crime rates will decrease because people will have more access to it and it will not need to rely on a dangerous subculture.

            This is issue is blazing, and all of America can only wait and see. But what do you think: Drug or Medicine?

            Armageddon. The end of the world. The apocalypse. Humanity has always been fascinated with their own destruction, wondering and waiting for the day that all hell will break loose. We have gone through countless prophecies and threats of this ‘dooms day’ and survived, but still people focus on these predicted days.

            We have a new one coming, Dec. 21, 2012. According to Mayan prophecy’s that will be the day will all meet our maker. But is this date more than just the end of their calendar? Did this ancient people have some insight into the future, thousands of years later?

            This day does have a few key events occurring on it. For one, our sun under goes its solar cycle every 11 years, the last one being in 2001. So on that day the suns poles will switch. Though normally this is a rather routine event, the one that will occur in 2012 will be made all the more powerful by the alignment of Saturn and Jupiter with the sun.

            Other gruesome possibilities have been discussed for the outcome of this prophesized event. Will we die in flames or will history repeat itself? Well I suppose we will have to wait and see, but in the mean time what do you think?

Is Dec. 21 the dooms day or just the end of the Mayan’s calendar?

            We decorate our trees, putting lights and ornaments galore. Wreaths hang from our doors while a little Santa Claus and his eight tiny reindeer can be seen in the windows. But in every holiday season, more is decorated than just our homes. Our pets find themselves in mistletoe hats and Christmas tree sweaters.

            Pet lovers have long sense humanized their pets with replicated shirts and sweaters made just for their furry friends. For every season they have outfits made. Much like shopping for a child, so they shop for their pet. They force their pugs and kittens into often hideous clothing, no human would be caught dead in, making their a need for What Not To Wear: Pet Edition.

This phenomenon transcends even more than physical pets. Virtual sites have arisen all over the internet that allows you to dress up online animals to your specification. Devoted pet lovers, that border on the obsessed spend hours creating looks and sharing pictures of their pet in their best looks.

But is this game of dress up to be considered a form of animal cruelty or just a bit of fun? Is stuffing an animal into clothes full of holiday spirit cute or cruel??

            Our society is one of convenience. We get this there and get rid of this hear. A go-go-go nation of millions of people. But does that same notion of instant gratification and convenience apply to pregnancy?

            Abortion has been a source of continual strife among the apposing sides. Individuals, families, and governments all toil with this notion of terminating pregnancy. Is the fetus a child and so abortion is murder or is it just putting an end to growing cells?

            On the pro-abortion side, the argument states that the choice is the women’s. Her body. Her baby. Her choice. No government can remove the right of an individual to make a choice about the safety and health of their own life. Also legalizing abortions would allow women to have them in safe place with proper medical care instead of a dark alley somewhere.

            On the other hand many people, mostly with a religious influence, feel that abortion is murder despite the fact that the child has not been born. They argue from the emotionally charged pity center.

            So what is it to be: legal or illegal?

An eye for an eye.

You kill someone and we kill you.

           This concept of retribution has been the norm for most of humanities existence. Throughout history this bloody and often brutal revenge-based way of punishing wrongdoers has been not only accepted, but also condoned. But as the inequalities, social shortcomings, and overall substandard quality of life fade to history pages should we not also remove this fatal institution?

Can we really condone the execution of those who have killed? Is murder by an establishment expectable where as murder by citizens is punishable by death? In what way do we have the right to judge the guilt of another and act accordingly with the most final of acts?

            Since 1971, when the death penalty was reinstated, a little over a 1,000 people have been executed. Some people have been proven innocent after their death. Though it may be a small number aren’t those lives worth letting everyone live?

            Is the death penalty the only punishment or is it murder?

It has been decide, we all know this. America’s next president will be Barack Obama. But many are now asking: Is Obama the antichrist?

This masked devil is said to be a man or office of eloquent speech who will gain under him/them many governments and economies. They will lead the children of men away from the ‘God’ under false pretenses. The Antichrist will claim to be Christ and perform in ways that would delude people, but he is in fact Christ’s opposite. This incarnation of the devil will rule until finally overthrown by the army of God.

This superstitious belief has always been around, winding its way through religious texts and cropping up in particularly vehement religious groups. However, this fear has taken the publics attention with the current elections underway. Many people believe that President-elect Barack Obama is this prophesized destroyer.

Is this a legitimate fear or is it simply the manifestation of prejudice and man’s desire to put blame on others. Can the warning words of these people be nothing more than oppositions attempt to condemn this man of change?

              Death is a sensitive thing, something no one really likes to think about.   But death is as much a part of life as anything else and it deserves consideration. Namely, can man choose death over living or must they just go with the flow?

            Suicide and other forms of mercy killings have always been seen as reprehensible behaviors, dishonorable and just down right wrong. Religions invent reasons to avoid such action and society spits out infomercials about how life is precious, but does that really mean anything. Death is inevitable, why does it matter when or how you do the dieing? If life is no longer worth it, why should we not be forced to stay and wait what we all know is coming?

            In the case of the terminally ill, whose lives are ones of hospital stays, medication and pain, why must they hold on when they no longer want to fight? To force people to remain in such torturous conditions is wrong on all levels. Death is no great terror; it is simply another phase, the next step.

            Who knows if there is some great world beyond this one and who knows if choosing death over life is the deplorable choice we have deemed it currently.

            So I ask you, is choosing to leave the suffering of your life behind a terrible choice, especially if you are already dieing???

They stand on corners, walk down streets. They are in backrooms and on the phone. These infamous women of seduction flit about the pages of history as influential and often glorified women of pleasure. These whores proposition you, but San Francisco just might have a Proposition for them. Its called Prop K and it would legalize their current occupation.  The residents of California’s most glorified city are voting on this issue soon, deciding whether or not prosecution is okay. If passed this measure will restrict police enforcement against these ‘call girls’ and cut anti-prostitution funding.  Prostitution is a common theme in today’s pop culture. More and more films shed light on the plight of these women who exploit mans most basic sexual needs as a job. And throughout history women have often taken up this role. In Greece they were glorified as the messengers of Aphrodite and often played an influential role in the male dominated government.

            So the question is: Is prostitution an innate aspect of society and humanities sexuality or is it morally and ethically wrong?
